Matt Osbond

Principal Technical Art Director - Xbox Advanced Technology Group

I'm Matt, a Technical Artist with over 18 years' experience in the games industry, across AAA and VR/AR.

I have worked in senior roles on large titles such as Halo and Forza Horizon, and now help lead technical art across Xbox's Advanced Technology Group.

When it comes to teaching, I have taught python at Digipen Institute of Technology in Redmond (WA, USA), taught the MSc Indie Games at Falmouth University, and led game design and coding clubs at local schools.

I have 3 kids, in Years 7, 4 and Reception. When my eldest was keen to explore coding and game development, I noticed a bit of a gap in teaching. Coding for kids is plentiful, and there are lots of games resources. But no bridge or pathways for someone to follow if they were interested in both.

The Creator Engine is my answer to this problem.

Industry Experience

I have just over 18 years in the AAA games industry - from Rare, to an early hire at Playground Games building the original Forza Horizon, to the Halo franchise, and now helping lead technical art across Xbox's Advanced Technology Group.

Teaching Younger Kids

I have run coding clubs at local primary schools teaching Scratch and Python, and led a Game Design Club at a secondary school - taking students with no experience from concept to a complete Unity game.

Teaching Adults

I was an Adjunct Professor of Computer Science at DigiPen Institute of Technology in Redmond, Washington. I also served as the Final Major Project Lecturer for Falmouth University's MA Indie Game Development, mentoring postgraduate students building their first indie titles.
